Montessori Principles for Leadership and Staff Engagement

Determining Cause and Effective Treatment for Responsive Behavior in Persons with Dementia

Gain a better understanding of responsive behaviors and how to address them with dignity and respect

Participants in this course will learn to understand that responsive behavior in persons with dementia is not random and usually is in response to an unmet human need, to internalize the use of three key steps of a person-centered approach to dementia care, and to internalize approaches to determining the cause of a responsive behavior and to match cause with nonpharmacologic treatment. (2 hour)

Montessori-Based Activities for Persons with Dementia 1 & 2

Earn CEUs while exploring extensions and modifications of activities to make them fit people with a range of abilities and interests.

Complete the first course for detailed instruction on creating and presenting Montessori-based activities in working with persons with dementia, including step-by-step guidance on selecting materials and preparing the work environment. The second course focuses on important, yet often overlooked activity categories, including activities to enhance restorative and rehabilitative programs, activities for men, and activities to promote social interaction. Each course presents over 30 activities with explanations of how to adapt, extend and modify activities to accommodate the needs and preferences of individuals. (2 hrs each)
