ChooseMyViews® is a simple and effective tool to let persons with dementia or other cognitive deficits respond without the need to speak. Informed with research by speech scientists and geropsychology experts, ChooseMyViews® is designed to be used by anyone that provides care in this field. It’s especially useful when the caregiver and the person do not speak the same primary language, or when there are challenges with verbal expression.
ChooseMyViews® uses flashcards to depict items from a variety of categories including food, activities, and common pain-related ailments. The user responds by placing the flashcards on a response board in spaces designated as yes or no and always, never, or sometimes. The flashcards include both pictures and descriptive text to facilitate the person’s comprehension of the questions. The format is interactive and allows the caregiver to quickly grasp the person’s preferences and identify complaints of pain. Responses are logged on the Assessment Form for future reference. Follow-up queries can reveal any changes in the initial responses.
